Our Dairy

Welcome To Bertohn Farms

Bertohn Farms is situated North of Langham, Saskatchewan and currently works 800 acres.  Quite a jump from our 40 acres that was farmed for many years in B.C.

It was in 1996 that the name Bertohn Farms came into being as Albert and his younger brother John ventured into partnership, taking over from their father. That partnership lasted a few years until an opportunity for John to move to a big farm in Chilliwack became available. Albert bought his brother out of the partnership and then became the sole owner along with his wife Carmen.

In January of 2007 Albert and Carmen flew to SK in the dead of winter to view some dairy farms that were for sale.  It was that trip the determined our new direction.  Within a few weeks a deal had been sealed on the farm we now own.  We officially moved our operation here as of August 1, 2007.

It has been an amazing experience and we have been blessed with a wonderful community of people eager to help and make us feel at home.  Included among those are the previous owners from a few years ago who have had us over for Sunday Lunch and shown us pictures of this place in its prime.

We are currently building a new dairy barn that will house upwards of 200 cows.  We hope that it will be ready for operation by August of 2008.  At times progress can seem slow but we are excited about what the future holds in this new place.

A typical day on the farm starts with the wash pumps going off at 3:30 am at the same time the alarm clocks sometimes with a back up start going off. Albert is usually out the door by 4 am. Morning duties include mixing feed, milking cows, feeding calves, cleaning and helping any cows that are calving. We milk approximately 200 cows twice a day. Many a great conversations and cherished memories have been created while milking the cows together.

The whole family takes an active role in the life of the farm. The oldest children help milk while the younger come along simply for the tractor ride but none the less it's a family affair.

Albert and Carmen consider is a blessing to be able to farm. It's a lifestyle that provides families with quantity & quality time together. The children are learning a strong work ethic, responsibility and team work as they work together doing daily chores. While normal growing pains of learning these life lessons take place it's tempered with a foundation of love and security.

Albert's parents, John and Theresa no longer reside across the road and they are missed deeply.  They have been a strong support and they are wonderful people whose strong Christian values they passed not only to their children but they continue to influence the lives of their grand children.

Our dairy farm is a labour of love that will grow and change in the years ahead. It's provided us with a home, stability, a wonderful environment to raise our family and a means by which we can bless others. We've had people from as far away as Thailand come and stay here to learn what it's like to farm in Canada. We've also hosted numerous class tours as our kids are always excited to bring people here. We are thankful to the Lord for all that He's blessed us with.
