Paint My Day Stables
A Brief History Of Our Farm and Family
While we have owned horses for nine years we are branching out and
making our progressive dream a reality by establishing a name for
ourselves and allowing others to join in the journey by way of this web
site.
It was nine years ago that we were introduced to a lovely mare by the name of Veronica. We (Albert and Carmen) had purchased riding lessons for our then seven year old daughter Ashley, who was struggling in school and needed an outlet in her life. It was clear after the first lesson that our life would never be the same. Veronica taught Ashley so many things, but most of all, she taught Ashley about the gifts that lie within herself.
From Lessons to Ownership
It was while riding Veronica that we were introduced to a little chestnut pony by the name of Cindi. Ashley and Cindi were quickly best friends. Daddy opened his pocketbook and soon Cindi came home to live with us. We didn't even have a barn built but seeing as we owned a dairy farm it was easy to make room for this flashy, vibrant new love of Ashley's that quickly stole everyone's heart.
Ashley and Cindi went on to win many first place ribbons in the local shows but more than that we began to learn about the impact that horses can have in one's life. Eleven months after we purchased Cindi to our surprise she popped out a baby who was quickly named Prince Charming.
Prince Charming taught us many things, the most important was how much we really had to learn. We kept Prince for almost three years, having him professionally started by a local trainer/coach Sheri Doerksen. Ashley and Carmen took an active part in learning what the steps were. Ashley was the second person to back him and it was an amazing experience. We then sold Prince to a trainer in Alberta who placed him in a wonderful show home and he
was shown in the hunter circuit there. Prince's mom Cindi also resides in a show home continuing to teach others, as Ashley grew up so did her needs.
In July of 2007 we were absolutely thrilled to be able to purchase
Prince Charming back. The family that owned him for the last
couple of years knew of Ash's love for him and desire to one day own him
again. Dreams can and do come true. Prince and Shadow are
now Ashley's permanent horses and Prince and she have reconnected and
are preparing for a wonderful 2008 season.
As The Herd Grows
That was our early beginning. As the years have progressed through valley and mountain top experiences we have grown in our love of horses and our understanding of equine care and management. We continue to grow through clinics and courses on all aspects of equine care, weekly riding lessons, showing in both Eventing and local schooling shows. Our experience of running our own dairy farm has proved invaluable.
We have all levels of riders in our family, from lead line to intermediate. All of us take an active part in the daily care of our horses. As well, we have a strong network of experienced and knowledgeable people who are only a phone call away should we have questions or require assistance.
We are home to ten amazing horses. Four who are mature, well
schooled and family friendly. We are currently raising two babies.
In the next three years we plan to breed one of the mares to produce
a quality sport ponies. Please see our horses page to learn more about our herd.
What Does The Future Hold
Seasons change! After much prayer and consideration Bertohn Farms
and Paint My Day Stables as of August 1, 2007 relocated to Langham,
Saskatchewan, approximately 35 km Northwest of Saskatoon. We went
from owning 40 acres to 460 so far and our horses are loving every
minute of it. The future holds many dreams that are
quickly becoming reality. Living in the land of the living skies
is something to behold. Ample room, drier climate makes for some
very happy horses! In 2008 Rangers Sanctuary was opened. A place
for ponies to semi retire or retire and live out their remaining years
with TLC and quality care from their caregivers.
Paint My Day was born in the heart of a family whose lives have been deeply touched by ponies and horses whose names are forever etched in our hearts. Also to a man known as Albert who has always encouraged his wife ( Carmen) and his children Ashley, Bobbie, Courtney, Dyanna, AJ and Elizabeth to pursue their love of owning and raising quality animals.
